his new friends were using him, so that could blame the robbery on him and they knew he would be charged guilty because he's black

his old friends he blamed Stacey for cheating, stole Stacey's coat, and got Mrs. Logan fired

Little man and cassie never liked him

The Logans ended up trying to save him in the end by risking their lives and burning their own crops
